Portwell Inc., an innovative board and system solutions provider, an associate member of the Intel® Embedded Alliance, launched its new RUBY-D712VG2AR, the latest additions to its growing family of industrial ATX form factor motherboards.

RUBY-D712VG2AR is based on Intel® Q67 Chipset supporting the latest quad-core 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i5 and Core™ i7 processors by LGA 1155 socket. Aimed squarely at customers who seek flexible expansions such as PCIe X16, PCIeX4, PCIeX1, four PCI slots and one Mini PCIe socket, it can run dual integrated display via VGA/DVI-D/HDMI. Also the RUBY-D712VG2AR features high memory capacity, four 240-pin DIMM sockets that support DDR3 SDRAM up to 16 GB; dual Intel® Gigabit Ethernet LANs (one of which can support Intel® Active Management Technology 7.0); plus SATA (supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10), Audio and USB. RUBY-D712VG2AR industrial ATX motherboard based on the new Intel® Core processors is ideal for applications in such areas as factory automation, gaming, medical, digital signage, surveillance security monitoring and kiosks.

Multiple display interfaces

“We know the requirement of multiple display to be integrated in one board is becoming a necessary function to customers” says Vanessa Lee, Product Manager of Portwell Industrial Motherboard product line. “We designed several onboard display interfaces using the Intel® Q67 chipset to support various applications. The VGA port is the basic display interface for traditional applications like factory automation. Not only VGA port, RUBY-D712 also supports DVI and HDMI as digital interfaces which provide stable and better quality of display performance. HDMI integrated with audio output is a good feature for digital signage or kiosk applications which needs speaker function.”

Ideal arrangement of peripheral slots

We know that most of the traditional industrial applications still need PCI slots even the PCI-Express slots are already there for several years. Via the Intel® Q67 chipset, Portwell RUBY-D712 supports four PCI slots that can benefit those customers. RUBY-D712 also supports PCI-Express x16 slot if customer would like to use high-end peripheral card to support advanced functions.

Legacy function support

Legacy function like serial ports is important to factory automation application or industrial control unit. Portwell RUBY-D712 provides six RS-232 ports. Two of them can support RS-422/485 as well. The six serial ports support by RUBY-D712 could let customer use their current peripheral devices without any changes. It saves cost and engineering effort when customer migrate their motherboard to RUBY-D712 since they can keep their legacy devices.
